I just recently read an article in USA today about a veteran high end "ad man" Jerry Della Femina who set the record straight about the real life "Mad Men" depicted on TV. For all the fans of the show I am happy to say that according to Jerry, IT IS ALL TRUE. In fact in some cases, especially in the cases of the boozing, it is even underplayed on the show. It was not out of the norm to have three martinis at lunch with fellow workers, have a couple of bottles in your office, smoke up to four packs a day, and report
"sex" contests in the office. "There was a tremendous amount of sex. I don't know of a single marriage that survived that time. My first marriage ended after 24 years." The article continues about how ridiculous it was to be in that business during that time period. I am sure that this is not the case in every ad agency during the time, but to read this did not come to such a surprise to me. Not that it was at an Ad agency, but more of being in the city and the time period. I am curious to see if this article causes any buzz or outrage from other people to see if this is a true testimony.
